New Product Standards for Therapeutic Vaping Products – What changed on 1 March 2025
The latest amendments to TGO 110 came into effect on 1 March 2025, introducing stricter regulations for therapeutic vaping products in Australia. These changes impact product naming, packaging, labelling, and ingredient limits—critical factors for pharmacies dispensing these products. Here is what you need to know to stay compliant.
Key Regulatory Changes
Stricter Rules on Product Names
- Names must not appeal to children or adolescents.
- Must not reference food, beverages, confectionery, or cosmetics.
- Must not imply health benefits or suggest the product is safe.
- Must not promote, exaggerate, or encourage use.
Tighter Packaging & Labelling Requirements
- Restrictions on label colours and text sizes.
- Mandatory clear and standardised warning statements.
- Prohibited features include heat-activated inks and time-delayed embellishments.
Ingredient & Nicotine Limits
- Only approved ingredients are permitted in vaping substances.
- Menthol concentration is capped at 20mg/ml.
- Nicotine concentration must not exceed 50mg/ml.
- Maximum container sizes:
- Individual vape liquid containers: 60ml max.
- Pods/cartridges (closed system): 5ml max.
What This Means for Your Pharmacy
As of 1 March 2025, only vaping products that meet these updated standards can be imported into Australia. Pharmacies and other suppliers have until 1 July 2025 to ensure all stocked products comply with the new regulations.
To avoid disruptions, review your current inventory and work with suppliers to ensure all therapeutic vaping products meet these updated requirements. Patients relying on these products will also need guidance on compliant options moving forward.
